The story of LeaseGuide.com began about 30 years ago when the Internet was very young and sites such as Amazon had not been ceated yet. The motivation for the site was that I had recently leased a brand new Audi 5000, not knowing anything about leasing except that it allowed me to drive a beautiful luxury car for a low monthly payment. I soon realized that had no idea if I had been cheated, gotten a good or bad deal, or if I had made a big mistake. It actually frightened me a bit.

I knew that if I wanted to continue leasing my new cars, I would have to be smarter about it. I needed to learn how leasing worked, how to calculate payments and be able to evaluate my future lease deals (and check for dealer "mistakes") before I signed. I was fortunate, based on past business knowledge, to be able to quickly educate myself, even though there was essentially no resources from which to learn, especially online. I also discovered at the time that my relatives, friends, and others knew less than I did. Most people were under the impression that leasing was "only for businesses", "a dealer scam", "nothing to show for your money", "same as renting", and other misconceptions based on hearsay. All the others who actually leased, did it for the same uninformed reason that I did — low monthly payments.

I wanted to create a web site on the new Internet World Wide Web (WWW) that would give automotive consumers unbiased free information, advice, and calculators so that they could learn about car leasing and make intelligent decisions. I taught myself to code HTML (the language of web pages) and created the first version of LeaseGuide.com in 1995. Over the years, the site has been updated and improved many times.

This new 2026 completely revised version is a result of learning what our visitors want and need, which is simply to be able to make good, fair, and smart car leasing deals. Much of the "fluff" of our old site is gone (you can visit our competitors for that) and its now tightly focused on that single objective. Thank you for visiting.
